What is a heat deflector and when do I use it?

Content

The Heat deflector / plate setter is mainly used for low and slow dishes or preparations that take a little longer, such as a whole chicken or an oven dish. For dishes that you don’t want to put directly over the coals.

Why me the heat deflector?

This ceramic plate ensures that the heat and infrared radiation of the glowing charcoal do not cook your dish directly, thus preventing blackened dishes. So you make an oven of your kamado bbq.

How the heat deflector?

The heat deflector you put when the firelighters are extinguished and the charcoal starts to glow (after about 10 to 20 min) on the ring of fire and you let it heat up. If you want to use smoking wood during your low and slow session, we recommend to put it in the charcoal before you put the heat deflector in the kamado.
